Dave and I went to Lafayette early Saturday morning to pick up Debbie and Normand for a fun filled day of garage sales and flea marketing, once we picked up our travelling companions we drove up to Arnaudville to begin the 7 mile journey to Grand Coteau. We started out at a large lot where a dozen or so vendors set up booths along the main road in Arnaudville.
Dave and Normand enjoyed looking at old tools and machinery while Deb and I scoured the booths for our favorite girly things. She was in search of a frame, which she found at our first stop and I was hunting for a head and foot board set for Erica’s bedroom in the new house and just hunting for dishware in general, I scored finding a pretty short wide crystal vase at one of these vendor’s booths for just a dollar. It still had the store tags on it and it was never used. I will photograph this soon and share.
One of my favorite stops along the way was at a little gift shop about half way between Arnaudville and Grand Coteau, I found four lovely green stemware glasses there and Dave picked up some blueberry pepper jelly. I found a booth selling fig cake and got Dave a piece, figuring since I didn’t cook breakfast for the man and woke him at the @$$crack of dawn I should be nice enough to do that. He really enjoyed the cake! This is a photo of what the yard at this gift shop looked like, vendors were everywhere!
Right in the middle of the front yard the owner had a big pot of red beans and rice that was so aromatic and delicious smelling that we were tempted to stick around for a bowl but it was way too early for that!
Down the street from this shop we saw a few long horn cows and their buddies enjoying the brisk morning air and feeding on the long grass.
Our next stop was this really cute house with a huge front yard filled with beautiful trees where moss hung above your vehicles when you parked. They were hanging both their LSU and Saints flag on this Autumn day. It was a very welcoming country house.
There were vendors all over the yard and the home owners were smart enough to set up a cafe of sorts and cook a big chicken and sausage gumbo. Regardless of our decision not to have something to eat fifteen minutes earlier, Dee and I caved to the aroma wafting across the yard toward us. It was a little bit thin but man was it yummy, the warmth was welcome too since it was still nippy at 10:30.
The beautiful moss filled trees.
My travelling companions. Handsome, Normand and Debbie.
Deb enjoying her gumbo.
A vendor with home made crosses made from old cypress boards.
Our next stop was definitely because of the clothes bushes and trees, we didn’t find any treasures there but we sure did think the whole place was interesting.
Dave was highly entertaining, he is always agreeable when I point the camera in his direction, often feeling the need to put on a character and perform. Here he is … injured, injured bad.
Norm and Debbie checking out the display.
More photos from Grand Coteau later. I hope you had as much of a fun filled weekend as I had! Stay tuned….

I am so jealous! I've always wanted to go to the 7-Mile Garage Sale...
It looks like you all had so much fun.
Oh wow, this is so cool, great pics Seems like they know how to interest people. I have recently executed a garage sale too and loved it, really. Actually, I even wrote an article about how to do it well.
