Bitty Baby Clothing and a New Layout

I found an adorable little sleeper at Walmart in preemie size and gave it to her for Christmas for her Bitty Baby doll she named Mia Marie. I was just sure it would fit and tonight she tried it on her baby and I have to say it fits nicely and its so adorable. Carter makes it in their “Child of Mine” line and it was only $7, for that price I tell you its really a good deal since baby doll clothes is way more expensive than that online and in local stores. Just a tip for all of you with little girls who love their American Doll Bitty Babies. The tag said 17” and her doll is 15, it fit beautifully!

Kali’s Latest Project

Yesterday when Kali and I went to Lafayette we stopped at Hobby Lobby and picked out fabric for Kali’s pajama pants project. This is for her second sewing lesson and we wanted to get it in before she went back to school after the Christmas and New Years Holidays. She picked a pretty fabric with lavender and purple butterflies accented in lime green with black outlines. There are a few flowers mixed in  that are pretty shades of light blue, white and aqua. She chose a purple tee shirt and pretty lilac colored flip flops that match nicely with her fabric. We also found dotted grosgrain ribbon in coordinating colors and a bit of boa feather to put in the middle.

    Here she is ready to start her pajama project.

 

I got her started by pinning and cutting out the fabric (she will learn how to do this soon too) then we were ready to go.

She remembers the sewing steps really well and today she did her own thread cutting. She’s very careful with the pins and scissors.

Kali (Learning to Sew)

Today when Krista dropped Kali off in the morning before she went to work I had already decided that today would be Kali’s first sewing lesson. She could whistle, wink and snap her fingers by the age of two, so I figured she would be a champ in the stitching world! I can remember my grandmother and mama teaching me how to embroider when I was about seven years old and figured since Kali is six and a half that we could start teaching her the basics of sewing. For Christmas this year Pop and I gave Kali her very own Brother sewing machine since she has shown such an interest in learning how to sew when she sees me making something on my sewing machine.

Here she is with all of her materials ready to begin.

We decided since a pillow case is a very easy, straight lines beginner project that we would begin with that. So we ironed the fabric, cut out our pieces of fabric that Kali chose from our material box and set out to make the prettiest pillow case she’s ever seen.

I taught Kali how to stand away from the ironing board so that she wouldn’t burn her tummy, I set up the board at a height that she could comfortably move the iron around and watched her very closely so she wouldn’t burn herself.

She was very careful to keep the fabric straight and her stitching evenly spaced away from the edge. She followed the “2” line very neatly. She stopped about a half inch from each pin holding her fabric together to remove the pin and then continued.

She was careful and very neat. She remembered each time to run a few reverse stitches to keep her seams from separating.

After she was finished sewing I taught her how to iron open the seams and finish pressing her completed project. One of the most important things I learned when I was first learning to sew was to iron as I sewed and keep everything neat. It has been a valuable lesson I use today.

Here she is with her finished project, she’s going to be sleeping on it tonight!

Christmas Eve at the Larson Home

Our sweet boys were here on Christmas Eve to open presents and spend time with the family. They were too cute and had so much fun with Pop!

 

Kali was beyond thrilled when she opened her gift from Lolli and Pop… she really did jump for joy!

What can I say, the girl wants to learn how to sew with Lolli!

New Orleans Antiquing

While Krista and I were in New Orleans with Kali for the Royal Teddy Bear Tea Party we planned to do a little shopping on Magazine. I didn’t expect to find an antique store along the way but goodness was I excited that we did! I found a gorgeous Cranberry and cutglass pitcher that I fell in love with and had to have it. Merry Christmas to me! Isn’t it gorgeous!?

We used these dishes for Krista’s bridal shower at Rip Van Winkle Gardens and they were lovely!

Royal Teddy Bear Tea Party (Decor)

Everything at the Royal Sonesta was exquisitely decorated for the Tea Party, the lobby and hallways leading the the Grand Ballroom and the inside of the Ballroom were just gorgeous!!
